Here's Cheers for Doomsday!

This was a fun piece poking fun at the popular misconception that the world was going to end when the Mayan Calendar ended. The world didn’t end, and we managed to curate some fabulous RB art in celebration. You’ve most likely heard a lot of talk over the past few months about the Mayan Calendar and its dire predictions that the world is about to end very soon. On December the 21st, to be exact. The countdown to Doomsday or “2012” as the Internet phenomenon has rather coolly called it, began thousands of years ago, 5125 years ago to be exact. Some report that it is foretold that the completion of the Mayan Calendar heralds in a great transformative event, and that transformation ensures a renewal of the Earth…a “cleansing,” if you will.

This great transformation, or cataclysm is commonly known by many as The Apocalypse , Doomsday or Armageddon . You get the point, right? It’s basically all bad news for the world in just a few days time.

So, here’s a couple of scenarios to mull over. Firstly, you could try bunkering down in the hope that you’ll be able to survive the cataclysm. To do this, you will have needed to be building your bunker a long time ago. Or perhaps you could purchase one but again, I’m thinking you should have been onto this quite some time ago. If you’ve seen the film Blast From The Past , you’ll know that it’s a very real fact that you can live comfortably for a very long time in a bunker and find true love as well.

You don’t have a bunker prepared? Not to worry, you could instead try heading for high ground. One popular belief is that the cataclysm will cause the seas to rise to such levels that all but the highest peaks will be submerged. Think of the great deluge that Noah faced and you’ll be close to the mark. So pack your food, plenty of fresh water, build an Ark if you wish, and head for the hills.

If neither of these options appeals to you, there’s always embracing the Apocalypse. Accept that this is an inevitable event that can’t be avoided so you might as well have some fun with it. You might like to get together with your friends to watch the show. Have some great food, some drinks, and put on silly hats if that’s what floats your boat. (see what I just did there?) Either way, make it a cataclysm to remember!

Me, I’m going to take option 3. I’ll be sitting back with a glass of red and some awesome tunes, and peacefully waiting for the outbreak of the Zombie contagion. Now, that’s an Apocalypse to prepare for!
